Government Organisations


Arts Council of England (ACE)
Responsible for developing, sustaining and promoting the arts. Accountable to Parliament through the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

Arts Council for Wales (ACW)
Responsible for funding and developing the arts in Wales. Accountable to the National Assembly for Wales. Also accountable to Parliament for the distribution of National Lottery funds.

BECTA
Promotes the development of content for the National Grid for Learning and the Virtual Teachers' Centre.

DfES (Music Services Guidance)
The national music education organisations have contributed to the guidance in this website, which identifies what makes LEA music services effective and seeks to disseminate good practice more widely.

Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA)
Statutory body responsible for the curriculum and assessment system for - Under-fives - National Curriculum for schools - Higher level vocational qualifications. QCA is also the regulatory body for public examinations e.g. GCSEs, A levels, GNVQs and NVQs and publicly funded qualifications.

Scottish Arts Council (SAC)
Grant aided by the Scottish Office. Also distributes National Lottery funds. Develops the arts by working with artists, arts organisations and other partner bodies and promoting them as widely as possible.

Teacher Training Agency (TTA)
Statutory body charged with raising standards in schools by attracting able and committed people to teaching and by improving the quality of teacher training.
