Introduction

You might say I am not a pure music photographer...

I am equally concerned with social documentary and reportage, and in the history of London, though it is not my home town and I no longer live there; and a lot of my work takes me to South America and France and Spain! I don't have an intimate knowledge of music. My knowledge base is photography and film.

I remember a shoot on a boat in the River Thames. My client was the Rastafarian, reggae "prophet" Sizzla (aka Miguel Collins). It was very disturbing. There were no greetings. He just launched into a long ranting monologue about what it was to be him and a Rastafarian. It was difficult to understand. I simply sat there and took photographs. I had to treat him as an actor and shot as if it were a film shoot. It was important to establish him in a context that I could relate to.
