By all means learn and apply these concepts - but don't play them all at once ! Jazz is an aural skill - LISTENING to yourself and others is of MEGA importance. Practising jazz skills can be lonely. Convert your friends to the cause and play in a group. Every important innovation in jazz is documented on CD somewhere, so get hold of the important recordings and listen to them as often as you can. Don't
